The 7th Higher Education Facilities Outstanding Scientific Research Achievement Award (HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES) Prize Winner Professor Rong Xinfang

Recently, the Ministry of Education issued the "Decision on the Seventh Higher Education Facilities Outstanding Scientific Research Achievement Award (humanities and social sciences)" (Social Science Education [2015] No. 4), announcing the prize winners of the Seventh Higher Education Facilities Outstanding Scientific Research Award (humanities and social sciences). Professor Rong Xinfang, from College of Foreign Languages at Shanghai Maritime University won a second prize of Foreign Literature Award with his monograph "I.A. Richards and Chinese Culture: Western-Eastern Cultural Dialogue and its impact".

Professor Rong Xinfang, an esteemed professor at SMU’s College of Foreign Languages, earned his Doctor’s degree from Nanjing University and has studied in the United Kingdom, Australia and other countries as visiting scholars. For the eight full years he has been working at SMU, Professor Rong Xinfang teaches undergraduate and graduate students, with average weekly teaching hours up to ten hours, and at least six graduate students under his tutelage every year. Apart from teaching, he also shares with young teachers his superb teaching skills and experience to guide and encourage young teachers to improve their skills and abilities, and often discusses research topics with them to with their papers. He is an outstanding teacher to his students, and a mentor to his young fellow teachers.
