On Oct.18th, more than 20 alumni of the Class of 1990, graduating in English for Science & Technology, came back to SMU for the celebration of the 20th anniversary of their graduation.

At 10:30 am, the alumni gathered at the Gate 1 of Lingang new campus, which evoked their fond memories of the old campus at Minshen Road. As they took pictures in front of the gate, the exhilaration was etched on their face, a joy that symbolized their eternal youth.

In honor of their mother school, the alumni had, after deliberation, decided to plant a tree, a symbol of their deep-rooted love for SMU. At around 11 am, they gathered at the lawn east of CFL and planted a robust magnolia grandiflora together with Prof. Wang Juquan, former director of the department of English, Shang Xin, dean of CFL, and Party Secretary Hou Chunlin. This symbolic tree represents their sincere wish that SMU and CFL will grow ever more prosperous across generations.

After lunch at student canteen, a meeting between the alumni and faculty was held in Administration Building, Room 106 at 13:45. Shang Xin, dean of CFL warmly welcomed the alumni and expressed his deepest gratitude to them for all the support they have given to SMU over the years. Meanwhile, he reviewed the latest development of CFL, including discipline building, talent cultivation, and international student exchange programs.

Also present at the meeting were Prof. Wang Juquan and Zhu Yaobin, then Chinese teacher and now party secretary of the school of law. They both shared their fond memories with the alumni, who dedicated themselves to academic studies and were willing to help each other. All these helped raise the profile of the CFL and all the faulty then were indeed proud of their achievements. The meeting ended with the simple yet sincere remark by Prof. Wang Juquan. And that also marked the end of the visit by the alumni of the Class of 1990.
