The Convention of an Inspection Meeting on the Midterm Quality of the Postgraduates’ Education by College of Foreign Languages
On the afternoon of December 10th, CFL held an inspection meeting on teaching quality of postgraduates’ education in room 510, and nearly 30 people attended the meeting, they are professors, the chairman of professional committee, the chairman of the board, the tutors of the postgraduates and the teaching secretary of the postgraduates.The meeting was presided over by Zhang Yan, the deputy dean of CFL. First, she gave a brief introduction about the two-way choice between teachers and students at the beginning of the term, and accentuated the necessity of the implementation of it.
Following is the introduction of the appraisal about the two awards involved in the development and management of the postgraduates’ education: the freshman scholarship and the national scholarship.
Thirdly, according to the recent opinions about the midterm teaching quality reflected on the symposium, she put forward the preliminary plan for solving such problems as follows: the curriculum setting put forward by students, the adding of some relevant theoretical knowledge on shipping and maritime field. Besides, she hoped that tutors can provide postgraduates with professional guidance timely, strengthen the communication between teachers and students, help students to write papers and improve the quality of paper. Meanwhile, she hoped that tutors can offer suggestions and exert efforts for the teaching management of the postgraduates. Tutors all spoke their minds and expressed their own opinions enthusiastically and put forward many suggestions on whether or not should they conduct the act of two-way choice and make out corresponding plan a few weeks later after students take their classes officially; whether or not should they take the tutors’ rewards into consideration when offer rewards for students.
Finally, Zhang Yan, the deputy dean, pointed out that the precious opinions and suggestions offered by tutors will be attached great importance to and some rectification and reform will be made accordingly. New tasks will be assigned to tutors at the same time. Tutors are expected to take the initiative to meet the professional evaluation of English translation and make a concerted effort to improve the quality of postgraduates so as to shift the teaching quality of postgraduates to another stage.
