Industry Elite Invited to Lecture on Translation Practice-Several Problems Regarding to the Translation and Acquisition of Business English
OnJan. 14th, at the invitation of CFL, Chen Changyi, China GeneralManager and Chief Representative of PPMA(The Processing Equipment &Packaging Machinery Association) came to CFL and gace a lecture abouttranslation practice. Shang Xin, Dean of CFL; Zhang Yan, vice Dean of CFL andWeng Fengxiang, person in charege of MTI station attended the lecture togetherwith MTI students registered in 2014.
Beforethe lecture, Mr. Chen firstly received the letter of appointment as an off-campussupervisor for MTI students issued by Dean of CFL, Shang Xin. Then Mr. Chentalked about the several problems that may be confronted in the acquisiton andtranslation of business English. He pointed out that an excenllt businessEnglish talent shoud not only have a good command of English and basicknowledge about business, but also acquaint themselves with translating skillsin doing business English translation. They should at the same time accumulatesome practical experience. After that, Mr. Chen introduced the main content intranslating business English and the major mistakess that were often made bygraduates who were new to work, including weak sense of responsibility, lack ofknowledge about the cultural differences and incapability to think alone. Atthe end of the lecture, Mr. Chen expressed his expectation on the students, andreminded them of the problems met in business English translatin through realcase he met.
Studentsbenefited a lot from the lecture, and most of them showed great interest intheir future job hunting in related area. Mr. Chen thought that MTI is a majorattaching great importance in practice. He wished that he would share with thestudents about his own experience next time.
