Lecture Introduction

Poetry is an important literary genre and the earliest form of literary language that has appeared since the beginning of human language. It uses refined and rhyming language to reflect social life and convey people’s feelings and experiences of the world in a highly concentrated manner with strong emotions and rich imagination. At the same time, poetry also gives the poet the pleasure of creation, gives the reader the pleasure of appreciation, and increases people’s understanding of the subjective and objective world and their intellectual enlightenment. This lecture will introduce the development trajectory of Western modernist poetry in Britain and the United States, as well as representative poets and works, and will help the audience understand the general style of British and American modernist poetry, and experience the unique charm of English poetry.
