Recently, Vice President Shi Xin of Shanghai Maritime University led Zhang Qiurong, Director of Academic Affairs Office, and Liu Zhiwei, Director of Academic Information Management Center, to visit the College of Foreign Languages to investigate the teaching of college English in our university again, which fully shows the importance the university attaches to the teaching of college English. Zhu Yaobin, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Foreign Languages, Guo Haixia, Vice Dean of Teaching, Tong Heilong, Assistant Dean, Zhu Xiaoling, Director of University English Teaching Department and teachers' representatives Lu Zhongfei, Rong Yongchang, Yang Weixiu, Yu Yufeng, Song Ying, Huang Xianghui, Zhou Wenjie, Yang Lifang and Han Xin attended the symposium.
At the beginning of the meeting, Vice President Shi Xin pointed out that through the last symposium and the discussion and communication of the teacher representatives, we have actually understood some actual situations of college English teaching, so we hope that through the research again, we can further promote the college English teaching reform from the three points of 8+X curriculum construction, English teaching on water and the second classroom of college English. The English teaching reform was further promoted from three points. After that, Mr. Yang Weixiu, Mr. Yu Yufeng, Mr. Yang Lifang, Mr. Lu Zhongfei, Mr. Rong Yongchang, Mr. Zhou Wenjie, Mr. Tong Heilong, Mr. Zhu Xiaoling, Mr. Song Ying, Mr. Huang Xianghui and Mr. Han Xin made speeches according to their own teaching situations and discussed issues such as the selection of teaching materials, the adjustment of credit hours, students' learning burden, the evaluation of regular grades, the threshold for electing special courses and the selection of online teaching resources. A lively discussion was held. According to the teachers' speeches, Vice President Guo Haixia pointed out that the college had made some corrective measures to help teachers solve the related problems as soon as possible.
Director Zhang Qiurong also gave a positive response to the issues of credit adjustment, the threshold of special course selection, the opening of water-based courses and how to select suitable teaching materials, and put forward some valuable opinions and suggestions. Secretary Zhu Yaobin put forward three ideas from the perspective of party work of the college: to have a sense of responsibility and mission, to have unity of mind, to look at the future, and to make a joint effort of all staff to raise the teaching of public foreign languages to a new level.
Vice President Shi Xin fully affirmed the work of teachers and made some suggestions for the existing problems: optimizing classroom teaching programs, promoting independent learning with the help of online platform, and developing the second classroom around the three dimensions of cramming - test-taking - expansion. The Vice Principal Shi believed that the school and the teachers would be able to make the best use of the resources. Vice President Shi believes that through the joint efforts of the school and teachers, the university English reform will be able to advance gradually in depth and breadth, and further improve the language ability and overall competitiveness of our students.
