This talk aims to provide an overview of UK Higher Education on Maritime courses,curriculum design and the research focus.After introducing the UK university mission, it focuses on three pillars of curriculum design that arecritical for developing talent and future leaders.The talks will also highlight the research and innovation focus related to Maritime economy, Blue policies, planning and security, Blue energy, technologies and transport solutions.
The talk uses UK universities who offer Maritime Business courses and engage in Maritime research, examples include university of Portsmouth, Plymouth, City University (London), Solent University Southampton.
Lecturer profile:
Professor Mark XU (Xianzhong Xu) is an internationally renowned researcher, serving as an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Electronic Commerce Research, a member of the EESRC Grant Review Panel, a reviewer for the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Large Grants, and for ten years as Head of Department (Operations Research and Systems) at the University of Portsmouth, UK. During his 25 years of research and scholarship in the UK, Professor Xu has worked in a variety of areas such as the field of strategic information management systems, electronic (and mobile) business implementation and logistics; the adoption of enterprise communication technologies and knowledge management. He has published over 70 publications, including 40 international and national core journal papers and 3 co-edited books, and has led numerous research and knowledge transfer projects funded by the UK government and companies in other areas (including marine, telecommunications, global supply chains, manufacturing and agri-food security systems), with a cumulative total of over £700,000.
His main areas of research are English dissertation writing, strategic information management systems areas, electronic (and mobile) business implementation and logistics; adoption of corporate communications technology and knowledge management.
