In order to deepen the exchange and interaction between the College of Foreign Languages and its alumni, further deepen the construction of foreign language disciplines, focus on the maritime characteristics of the school, and strengthen the improvement of the quality of talent training, the College of Foreign Languages held a Foreign Language + Maritime talent training and high-quality development alumni symposium in the History Room 502 of the College of Foreign Languages Building during the activities of the alumni Homecoming Day on October 21. Ke Dong, Class of 1978 English major, President of Xiamen Customs Special Supervision Area Association and President of Xiamen Alumni Association; Liu Jie, Class of 1986 English major, chairman of Global Express Logistics Group and president of Shandong Alumni; Zhang Yuezhong, class of 1991 English major, Senior manager of COSCO Shipping Container Transportation Co., LTD. Xu Juehui, 1994 English major alumnus and General manager of Shanghai Port International Passenger Transport Center Development Co., LTD.; Yang Guang, 2009 Business English major alumnus and Senior Director of Chalk Education Product Operation; Zuo Biao, senior professor representative; Zhang Yan, President of the College of Foreign Languages, Li Pinyou, Secretary of the Party Committee, Liu Zhi, Deputy secretary of the Party Committee, Guo Haixia, deputy president, Deng Zhong, director of the office of the school, Sun Zhikuan, secretary of the Youth League Committee, etc., attended the symposium. Hospital Party Secretary Li Pinyou presided over the meeting.


At the symposium, Li Pinyou, secretary of the Party Committee, first delivered a speech and extended a warm welcome to the alumni. Subsequently, Dean Zhang Yan of the School of Foreign Languages introduced the latest development of the school to the alumni from the aspects of curriculum, subject development, and student employment.

 

Professor Zuo Biao expressed his appreciation for the current development status and achievements of the school. At the same time, combined with his own lecture experience abroad, he sincerely expressed the strength and touch brought by Haida and alumni. After that, Professor Zuo Biao recited his poem Sea and Sea as the end of sharing, revealing his sincere feelings for his Alma mater everywhere.

 

Then, the alumni spoke separately and shared their thoughts and suggestions on talent training and high-quality development from different perspectives in their respective fields. In the interactive session, the alumni had in-depth exchanges and discussions on topics such as foreign language talent training concepts, career planning, and the integration of industry and education. They all expressed the hope that through such an exchange platform, they would strengthen their ties with the college, promote the development of maritime foreign language talent training, and make greater contributions to the national Marine shipping field.

 

Finally, Li Pinyou, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Foreign Languages, summarized the harvest and results of the symposium, he said that the valuable experience and suggestions of alumni are very important for the development of the school, and the school will combine the feedback of alumni to further optimize the teaching system and improve the quality of talent training.

 

The sea nurtures the SMU, and the SMU relies on the sea. This symposium is one of the important activities of the College of Foreign Languages to promote the high-quality development of Foreign language + maritime talent training, and is also an important measure for the school to strengthen ties with alumni and expand cooperation. The College will continue to maintain close ties with alumni, continuously optimize teaching and talent training work, and provide better support and services for student development.
