Professor Liu Hongdong of Shandong University was Invited by the College of Foreign Languages to Give an Academic Lecture

   On the afternoon of January 3, 2024, at the invitation of the College of Foreign Languages, Professor Liu Hongdong, member of the Steering Committee of College Foreign Language Teaching of the Ministry of Education and vice President of the College of Foreign Languages of Shandong University, came to the School to give a lecture on Research Transformation and Academic Ability Development of Minority Language teachers and students in the New Era. The lecture was hosted by Professor Zhang Zhiguo of the College of Foreign Languages, and nearly 60 teachers and students of various majors attended the lecture.  

 

    Professor Liu Hongdong first published his unique views on How to develop foreign language teachers and students in the new era, pointing out that under the background of multi-polarization and economic globalization, foreign language speakers in the new era should be interdisciplinary talents with both national feelings and global vision. By analyzing the country's development plan in education in recent years, Professor Liu pointed out that to answer The Times questionnaire well, it is necessary to speed up the training of urgently needed talents in the fields of international communication, international organizations, and global governance, and cultivate foreign language speakers in the new era who can tell Chinese stories well.

 

    Then, Professor Liu from the teachers, and school environment to the needs of the whole society, seeing the small, explained the situation and difficulties faced by the foreign language major. Taking the exploration and practice of Shandong University as an example, this paper describes the ice-breaking way of minor language majors, such as multilingual, micro-major, multi-language + specialty construction methods. Professor Liu fully affirmed the research direction of our institute combining the application of foreign languages and maritime languages and the construction of doctoral programs in second-level disciplines, and specifically proposed the professional construction of minor languages combined with Marine characteristics and international organizations.

 

    At the end of the lecture, Professor Liu asked questions and interacted with the teachers and students present. The atmosphere was warm. This lecture gave the teachers and students of our college a new understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing the foreign language major in the new era, and played an important role in the construction of foreign language discipline with maritime characteristics, promoting interdisciplinary integration and carrying out organized scientific research.
