Shanghai Maritime University has a long history of translation theory and practice and is one of the earliest universities in China to train graduate students in translation. In recent years, focusing on the strategy of serving the country's maritime power, shipping power, and the development concept of the Shanghai International Shipping Center, the school has actively built a new era translation theory and practice training system. From 2023 to 2024, nearly 20 papers on translation theory have been published, including 2 in SSCI Region I journals and 6 in CSSCI journals. 1 translated works; Three provincial-level projects and five horizontal projects were added.
The main topics of the translation theory projects and papers for 2023-2024 are Translation cognition and Technology, Vertical field (maritime) Translation and language services, discourse communication, and AI-assisted translation. The training of translators and interpreters at Shanghai Maritime University pays special attention to the theoretical and technical system of the AIGC era to serve the international maritime and Marine discourse communication, the correlation between maritime industry language communication and industry efficiency and safety, and the communication ability of international common language in the training of high-end sailors in the new era. The focus on talent training is reflected in the annual scientific research results in the form of organized scientific research, including post-translation editing, subtitle translation research based on eye tracking experiments, machine translation research on sea-related texts, translator training, and translation teaching research in relevant institutions. It also includes the study of the knowledge system of Chinese propaganda translation, the theoretical study of Chinese culture translation, and the case study of modern and classical literature translation.
In 2023-2024, the wind is strong and the tide is surging, the translation discipline of Shanghai Maritime University should set sail and strive to develop a Heading to serve the national Marine and shipping strategy and the construction of Shanghai International Shipping Center with the translation theory and practice with maritime characteristics.
